Impactful people that have helped fulfill the mission of Supplies for a Better Future Foundation

Supplies for a Better Future Foundation started helping just a few families in rural areas of Brazil with food and providing school supplies for kids that a lot of times had to stop going to school because their families couldn't afford them.

Throughout the years Supplies for a Better Future has been growing and helping more kids, and a lot of that is due to the help of Schreiber Foods employees that they call partners. Schreiber Foods is a large food Company present on five continents

Derek Carlsen, HR Business Support Manager has been a big part of the reason why we are growing as a Non-Profit and helping more kids stay in school in Brazil.  Besides having Schreiber Foods as one of our main sponsors for our local events in Utah, Carlsen also got an article published on Schreibers Intranet News Website-The Source about Laney Tolman-Co-Founder and Board Executive Director of Supplies for a Better Future. Laney is also a partner at Schreiber Foods in Logan UT.

"One of the things we take pride in at Schreiber foods is really supporting the community locally. Most of the time, because we live here we know what they need. This one was a different challenge because it is in a different part of the world. We want to make a difference and it doesn't have to be in the community we live in." Derek Carlsen

In previous years Laney Tolman got donations from employees, but after the article came out other people started to reach out, donating more and more even without bins placed to receive them! There is even a partner that uses her spare time and skills to make school bags at home for the kids so that not even one is left without a backpack or bag to carry their school supplies.

After reading the article about Laney and the Non-Profit, Patricia Chagas-HR Team Leader at Schreibers Rio Azul-Brazil plant, decided to also create a donation drive at the Brazilian plant to help Supplies for a Better Future get these much-needed supplies to the rural Brazilian children.

In 2023 Supplies for a Better Future took school supplies and drawstring bags that helped an extra 50 kids due to Schreiber donations, in 2024 Supplies for a Better Future received over 400 backpacks and shoulder bags, along with enough school supplies that we got to help around 300 kids with their own school kits for their 2025 school year.
